Welcome to the 2026-2027 School Year
Get ready for the new year with these key dates and times, school supply lists, and other information.
First Day of Classes
We look forward to welcoming our students back to school on Monday, August 31, 2026. On this day at 9:15 AM most of our staff will be outside on the field to meet students and families. Classroom teachers will be holding a sign with their grade number to help their students locate them.
Unless you are registering a child for school, we ask that you avoid calling or coming to the office until the afternoon on the first day of school, since staff will be very busy. If your child is unsure of where to go or you have questions, please look for school staff outside before classes begin.
The school office will be open to parents on August 26, 27 and 28, 2026.
Classroom Teacher
Classroom teachers will be sending an introductory email to families at the end of August. In this email, there will be specific information about the first day of school, including where your child will be meeting their teacher in the morning.
If your child is taking the bus on the first day, staff will meet children at the bus and direct them to the field. Please make sure that your child knows what their bus letter is. If you are dropping your child off on the first day, but plan on taking the bus later, please let your child’s teacher know the bus letter.
Kindergarten | Staggered Entry
The first four days of classes for Kindergarten will have a staggered entry schedule. For details of your child’s schedule, please refer back to the email that was sent to you in early June. Please contact the school office if you are still requiring assistance. Regular classes and bussing (if you have registered) for Kindergarten will begin on Monday, September 8, 2026. There no Kindergarten classes on Fridays.
Class Lists & Placement Requests
Considerable time and care is devoted to creating balanced learning communities that support the academic, social, emotional, and well-being needs of all students. Teachers and school leaders work collaboratively to develop class placements using their professional knowledge of each learner, student input, and the overall needs of the grade level.
If there is information about your child that may not already be known to the school, or if circumstances have changed and you believe this information may impact your child's learning, well-being, or success in the coming school year, please share this information in writing with Steve Wigglesworth, Principal, or Tania Wong, Assistant Principal. Information shared will be treated confidentially and considered as part of the student placement process.
We appreciate your partnership and trust as we work together to create supportive, inclusive, and engaging learning environments where all students can thrive.
Soft Entry and Dismissal
Outdoor student supervision begins at 9:00 AM and students are welcome to come inside the school at 9:10 AM. Classes begin right 9:15 AM. Please note that students will not be supervised prior to 9:00 AM.
We want to remind families that instructional time goes right until the dismissal bell at 3:48 PM. Students will then be changing their shoes and getting ready to go home. Don’t be alarmed if your child isn’t outside the doors right at 3:48 PM, as they may still be getting ready.
Early Dismissal Fridays | 9:15 AM – 1:20 PM
We want to remind families that on early dismissal Friday’s, the dismissal bell rings at 1:20 PM.
If your plans have changed and your child will no longer attend Ranchlands School, please notify the office as soon as possible, 403-777-6350 ext. 0 or email us at ranchlands@cbe.ab.ca.
